I should hear from the dealer tomorrow on what they determine the issue is.

Perhaps the last rebuild was faulty.

Yeah that really sucks but is often common across everyone because often warranty only covers a bare minimum in terms of diagnostics and they only replace the short block. Hopefully newer failures are getting more parts replaced. Still wish Toyota would just crate a motor fully assembled like the factory has and just swap the whole thing. Some dealers service bay is not a factory machine shop after all.

Update on my 2023 build: Dealer has had the truck for 3 days in the shop and couldn't figure out the out the issues I seen with the truck. Today they determined that bank 1& 3 are running lean, the codes determined an issue with the mass air flow sensor. They cleaned the sensors, cleaned the flow sensor and are currently driving the truck, so far, the codes haven't returned. They have no idea why codes happened, filters are clean, factory filters installed. Not feeling overly confident that it wouldn't return.

No .. stated above, original factory air filters. Yes, so far feeling very fortunate that it's not an engine failure.

Seems '24s are not safe either. Waiting to see what Toyota tells the owner. Hope my 24 does not end up as one of the unlucky ones. Durability & dependability is absent from the entire auto industry (IMHO).

But, but, it was supposed have been caused by a single person at a single assembly plant that only affected a small number of engines and it was supposed to have been resolved by March 2023?
    LOL

According to FB post; truck was manufactured in Nov. 2023 (2024 model) and engine failure less than 10k miles)

This is strange to say: Hopefully, it's just some other problem that causes reduced engine power instead of a catastrophic engine failure. Saying "engine failure" is an easy conclusion to jump to when you read about it all the time in the FB echo chamber.

I'm crossing my fingers that this doesn't turn into Toyota's version of the Ford cam phaser problem. Lingered and lingered, despite Ford saying it was fixed and seemingly impacting trucks randomly in the later years. Some of the later models going 200k+ on the original phasers and others rattling like a tin can full of ball bearings at only 60-70k.

That is way quality goes. Zero percent failure is impossible. There will always be a non zero failure rate and a manufacturer threshold of acceptable defect occurrence and warranty costs.

Zero percent failure sounds great until your truck costs $250k to cover aircraft level engineering and testing

I'm sure all of the owners who had catastrophic failures will be comforted by these words and have their faith restored in the brand. lol.

No one realistically expects a zero-failure rate. Even with "aircraft-level engineering and testing" that is impossible. [I'm looking at you, Boeing] But, then no one expects to have a catastrophic engine failure either. :notsure:

Did anyone ever determine the date of first failure reported? Roughly what month and year?

I ask because surely Toyota jumped on it and subsequent engines to determine a reason. Then surely by the time 24s were being produced they addressed it. I am just speaking our of pure objective reasoning.

We don't know for sure...and we won't really ever know...there could've been a failure and that owner is not on any forum or social media, so...

Originally thought to be a bad batch of bearings but then engines started failing outside of that scope, so took more time to determine a cause...

And just so you know and are aware, we probably will need know when the first failure was and at what mileage...
