It's been around for a long time...

Started on the Lexus LS 460...part of the Premium packages on Tacoma...one fob, one card...

 

so what is the difference between that and the fob in the pocket?

I thought they were messing around with the thing where you can use your phone as a key

 

I hate that on my wife's Y. Damn thing works when it wants to and doesnt when its most inconvenient. Cant tell you how many times Ive stood in the rain yanking on the door handle and it wont recognize my phone. I usually have to cycle the bt on/off on my phone for it to work.

 

Digital Key is nice, but it needs some work...a lot of Lexus owners who have it won't use it, much like @eddiefromcali is talking about with their Tesla...

 

good to know, Im perfectly happy with the fob, I don't even have to take it out of pocket.

They are on national back order.

 

Hmm, tempting as well, would just be missing the blank key.

So the Lexus one could work, seems like they are around $60-70 on eBay, cheaper than the $200+ from a Toyota dealer.

 

Is that price used or new?

 

I am assuming those on eBay, for those $60-80 are used, some look newish, so probably a gamble to take! I see there are some around $200, with a blank key.

 

Used keys require a full reset of the security system. So it wipes all keys and you have to start over, so more involved programming…I’m in like $360 with keys and programming…

 

Ouch... in USD that is!! That's almost $500 CAD for me... I'll wait a bit!

 

Hmm thats a bummner, the used key i bought said it was wiped and reset for programming, sold by a locksmith. Ill keep yall posted.

 

Guess we will see...if it was de-programmed from the original car, you SHOULD be good...

The only time I've pushed the buttons is accidentally in my pocket and slamming my tailgate into my closed garage door... No buttons is a feature for me

 

I use the app or fob a couple times a day to start my truck. Free app service ends in a couple months so it will be all fob for me then.
