Yes the fitting is 6an ORB on both side from the rail to the FPR, so even if a small line was needed, etc. I am certain it would be able to be made to work.

Could do something like this and a 6an male/male on both sides. I am sure between all of the fitting companies out there, it should be easily adapted, and we would be happy to help as well!

Ha Ha, love it. I'll take a better listen when there isn't a ton of back ground noise and the Wifi isn't bogged down by all the people on the airport network!

I passed a line of exotics (apparently a club) and gave a whistle, just because I can, and because to your point, it's so unassuming. It has tow mirrors and chrome. It's not supposed to be living this life. :)

Car show with my father and his fox body is slated for this Wednesday. Not sure the weather will cooperate, but it should be an interesting experience bringing a newer vehicle to the party.

It sounds so much nicer in person. Without the recirculation kit, the screamer pipe drowned out all the "right" sounds. I'll be to report on towing sounds and such later this week. Hope your lift is almost done so you can get rolling on this.lart of things. You won't be upset.

MAF Sensor update... We just got tracking on the MAF sensors. Should be here by the end of the week. I know a few guys are waiting, thanks for your patience, we didn't expect to sell out so fast. Anyway, we'll get them turned around same day as long as UPS comes early enough. Thanks again!

    Surprise!

I was able to get the camper out of storage today before the rain.

    Tow details:
    Stage 1 - Turbo & Water/Meth Injection only
~50 miles, 14,250lbs, and an absolutely amazing experience for a test.
For anyone in MA, started at Hanscom AFB, down Rt 128, across Rt 2a, and then out Rt 2 until Rt 190 to the Leominster Cat Scale, then Rt 117 east back home.

Summary: Pleasant and uneventful 1st test. Reached 5psi for a sustained hill climb. More importantly, I have a fully usable 5th gear and easily a 50% reduction in downshifts and TC unlocks. Blew my expectations out of the water. Minor tweak coming to allow me to hold 5th gear even at low RPM (~2k) since the power is there but the fueling wasn't. Jesse can speak more to it, but they were dropping the PE down to match the new capability. A drop to 4th immediately resolved it.

Yeah buddy, blew our expectations out of the water as well! Not even concerned about your upcoming camping trip with the family. Our worry was that the added weight and wind resistance would cause the boost to peg and not only be working the motor, but also, chugging the meth. Looking forward to seeing your MPG tests on your first trip. I'd suspect a nice bump!

On one of the logs Brian sent, he was seeing about 2 PSI at 1700-1800 RPMs, but we had not ever seen boost that low, so the PE adjustment didn't start kicking in the extra fueling until a little over 2K. The revision he is speaking about is to adjust the RPM points in the PE, so that at the lower revs and boost we can at least see something in the 13s or so for AFRs. Not that the logs showed anything suspect, but we & Brian are on the same page of "rather be safe".

They say a picture is worth 1000 words... I mean, geez, can't really get a better and happier engine than this! 5 PSI, super loaded and everything is flatline, trims are perfect, KR is non-existent and AFRs are exactly where we want them for performance and safety!

Have we said how much we love the Tundra??!! :muscleflexing:

I'm beyond thrilled so far, Jesse! Thanks for developing the kit! I know it is one of many upcoming tests throughout the summer, but one hell of a way to kick them off! I was expecting some sort of issue, but I'm not sure we using 5th gear with 7k lbs in tow, sub 2k rpm was on in the test plan, so I'm not counting that as an L, but more of a win. I've never been able to use 5th unless perfectly flat highway, without traffic, at 65+ mph. I was on a 2 lane road under 50mph and wasn't looking to downshift.

Looking forward to seeing the impacts of the intercooler on those IATs, too! That hill is pretty close, so I can replicate it for before/after results. :)

Love it, soo much is left out of the conversation when we all talk about turbo and boost, etc. Almost always the additional airflow the turbo puts out, even when it's not in a positive pressure scenario is really where we will see a LOT of wins with this set up. All the fun you can have with the truck on a daily is a bonus!!

Yes, the intercooler should bring it within 5-10* of ambient, maybe a 10-20* lift on longer pulls, but will cut those down as expected. I wish we could put the water meth ahead of the MAF, but it would just cause MAF failure over and over from the spray.

Anyway, I'll have that PE revision over to you shortly!

This is one of the greatest aspects of towing/driving under load with boost IMO (turbo or SC alike). You don’t even need the positive boost pressure, just riding the 0 psi wave of torque and not needing a downshift or TC unlock when compared to NA is very confidence inspiring. Can’t imagine going back to towing without it.

I'll get there when the sounds grow old. That happens, right? :)

In all seriousness, unloaded and with the gearing, I'm not sure I frequent much over -4 or -5, but I also haven't hit the mountains yet. Pretty excited to continue learning how to drive it.

Thanks for getting the update over to me last evening.

For anyone who cares, I was able to revisit the same routes, with the same hills as yesterday (I actually never unhitched from yesterday) and everything was completely repeatable from a load and water/methanol consumption perspective. The AFRs at or just below 2k rpm are much better now with the PE update. Only thing worth noting if y'all are keeping track is that today, during my downshift into 4th gear on yesterday's 5.5'ish PSI hill climb, I hit 6.2PSI at 47% throttle. While the logs looked great, we adjusted the WG Duty Cycle in the SCG1 down since 6PSI wasn't part of the Stage 1 design. Safety margins first, fun second.

I had high hopes going into this project, but as far as I'm concerned, for a DD/family hauler/tow rig, I'm exactly where I want to be on Stage 1. I'm going to be enjoying this for a little bit and therefore will be quiet until there is something to report. Jesse and I were both expecting some hiccups along the way as we put things through their paces on the towing tests, but with nearly 100 miles of towing, there's not even a blip in the logs. I'm happy to recover some time, enjoy the truck, and get caught up on other aspects of life until we commence the Stage 1.5 testing.

I'll report back if something important pops up. Otherwise, no news is fantastic news!

MAF Sensor Update - UPS changed the delivery date to Monday, but they are in transit (no these are no overseas cheapo knock offs. These are from Michigan!) Anyway, as long as they come in early enough Monday, we should be able to turn all order shipments around same day. Thanks again!

Small for now (but mighty) update:
    • I have a relocated transmission cooler.
    • I have an intercooler.
    • I had an opportunity to work alongside Jesse and his fabricator to knock out the Stage 1.5/2 hardware and address a few hiccups, all over the course of a single 14 hour day.
    Hiccups:
    • The truck started acting strange a few days ago, and then the exhaust leak showed itself - resolved.
    • I didn't shave down a 2 studs on the inner fender enough, and they absolutely destroyed part of the up pipe wrap - resolved.
    • Out of an abundance of caution, Jesse warrantied the turbo center section due to a few random smoke events during idle - if it was the turbo, it's possible the -3 vs -4 fitting issue could have caused issue, and Jesse simply didn't want to wait to find out. Or! It was extreme condensation from the exhaust leak. Regardless - resolved.
    • While reinstalling the crossover pipe and turbo, nothing was aligning again, which was strange, so the decision was made to extend the slotted holes in the turbo mount. Everything aligned perfectly and I gained a bunch more clearance on the up/down pipes at the inner fender. This would have saved me hours during my own install, and while we have no great idea as to "why now?" It's 100% resolved.
So, next steps. Data logging for sure post exhaust leak. I'm idling at 14.0'ish AFR instead of 14.6/7. Then I need to order new connectors for the 20-row Setrab trans cooler before I can connect. That'll likely be middle of next week and until then I'm just running the lines connected to one another. And then, finally, tow in Stage 1, as originally planned, the weekend of May 17th. Then I'll be connecting Stage 1.5 after, as planned.

Jesse and @TurboKits.com are as stand-up as they come when supporting their products. Others are seeing it in shipping times and such, but I'm here to attest to the fact that it is 1000% in product support, too!

@bflooks what's your end goal? Just stage 1 or 2 or 1.5, wherever that may land on....?

On the transmission cooler, the "C" shaped aluminum bracket is the bottom intercooler mount. Due to the sizing, the 20-row Setrab couldn't fit east or west of it, so we worked through a lower mount. For reference, the trans cooler is now behind the lower valence on the bumper, in front of the power steering cooler. They were able to fabricate in a way that there is no contact with either the bumper or the power steering cooler, and was able to have it pitched top forward so I can still access the connection, even with the intercooler in place, which allowed us to follow the Setrab install configuration. "Easy" would have been to mount it vertically underneath and have bottom mount line connections.

Anyways, I'll need to remove the front grille to get better photos and I'll do that over the weekend.

Jesse already has ideas on how to make this better in the future and I look forward to reporting back on just how effective the location is.

BLUF: Always Stage 1.5 from the start, but 99.9% likely I'll just do pump/injectors for full Stage 2. Towing tests for every increment along the way following a crawl/walk/run method.

TL/DR: When this entire opportunity came up and we started talking, Jesse and I agreed that Stage 1.5 would be the best case for me due to my use case. At the time, I told him I wasn't chasing HP and didn't feel the need for the power at Stage 2. What I did care about was towing performance and all the right fail safes to have a truly epic tow rig (with some fun on the side). Enter the 1.5 (stage 1, plus intercooler).

I then grew fatigued and I threw in the towel on trying to make the appropriate mappings between S/C and T/C and water/meth vs intercooler vs both, and decided I am just going for a 10/10 on the safety factors. Right around the time I was headed on vacation, I told Jesse that I'm ending up at full Stage 2 since it is only a fuel pump and injectors away, but that I'm not in a rush. My own personal hope is that this provides more information for others as they do their own research. Maybe Stage 1 is all I really need. May be Stage 2 is where I should have started. The data just isn't there, yet. I'm planning to help address that.

So, I am honoring all of our original agreement of Stage 1, then Stage 1.5 testing and data logging, and then I'll be doing the same for full Stage 2 at some point. I'm excited to have the same baseline for all of this, and I think Jesse is, too. The intercooler install for Stage 1.5 (and the relocation of the GCS 15-row cooler) was always planned, and yesterday was the physical install, but not the connections, of those parts. Stage 2 likely won't happen until September, if this year at all. So, until then, all updates are 100% based on the original plan of Stage 1.5.
