FWIW...I put in the transferflow 46 gallon last year. Best upgrade I've ever done. Over 500 miles to the tank. DTE is not correct, but how accurate was it anyway. The fuel light comes on fairly early in relation to what's left, but get's you planning earlier than later. Any naysayers worried about it hanging down further, it's not an issue. The thing is built like a tank (Ha) and there's a ton of important shit that hangs down further.

I will echo this sentiment as I also have the TF 46 gal tank. I don't have the DTE indicator in my '07, but the fuel gauge indicates proper fuel level. The only difference in my truck is I have the upgraded fuel pump to feed the Magnusson SC. The corresponding tune wouldn't have messed with anything in the ECM regarding overall fuel capacity.

The DTE is a distraction. I had a Chevy that had a DTE but I could push a button and hide it. Only referenced it one time in two years nearing E out in the middle of nowhere.

On mine, I don’t pay attention to the DTE. I have made mental notes about how much fuel I have to add to fill the tank at the various points on the fuel guage and I have no problems.

Like previously mentioned, you will still have plenty of gas when on E. However this is typical to all factory installed 38 gal tanks, not because of swapping from 26 to 38 tanks. So technically the gauge is still OEM correct.

This reminds me that I did have issues reusing the factory 26 tank fuel sender. The angle the sender goes into the 38 tank is different, so your 26 tank sender will hit the tank side wall. The sender hit the wall around 1/3 tank reading and won't go lower. The fuel pump has to go in a certain direction and cannot rotate to fix the issue. The part number in the first post did not fix it. I used 83320-0C050. You can see the different lengths of the arms below.

keep in mind, the sender should always read low when there is a certain percentage of fuel in the tank. that's to keep the fuel pump cool. i usually am around five gallons on the stock tank and i think it was closer to 8 gallons on the 38gal tank (sorry, took it out two years ago and haven't put it back in yet, so don't really remember)

You'll have to do some minor trimming on the ends to get it in place and it'll bolt up fine. I did the same for my 18 DC.

I wonder if the 2.5 gens used a different sender because i reused my 26 gal tank sender without any issues. It has no problem going to E.

You'll need to get the bolts and nuts to attach the cross member to the frame. Holes are already there so it should be fairly easy to line it up. i don't think i took any pictures when i did it since its quite well documented in various threads.

I assume the sensor doesn't read it correctly? I'm thinking about picking up the new 38 gallon pump and sensor

You could get a 38 gallon tank from a wreck in a junk yard and pay the mechanic of your choice.

With some mods, yes. i had one in my 2012. the front crossmember that holds the tank isn't there, so you have to make one fit. after that, fairly simple bolt up.

Great thread and glad it's available! Thanks OP and everyone else who contributed.

Just a little FYI... Perhaps this was already pointed out, and I didn't see it, but the tank skid/protector listed in post #1 — PART NUMBER: 77606-0C040 Protector Sub-Assy, Fuel Tank, NO.1 — is for the 26 gallon tank!

The correct part number for the 38 gallon tank is 77606-0C060. I went to pick up my parts and thought my tank skid looked a little small, compared to the box... oops.

    Skid Too Small.jpg

Edit: Looks like it was brought up in post 420

Doing my swap and this issue has thrown a wrench in my gears. I wonder if the 26 gallon sending unit can be shortened or bent to make fit?

Hi! For part number 83320-0C050, is it the sender on the top or bottom ? I accidentally ordered 83320-0C060 to do the fuel tank swap from the 26 gallon to the 38 gallon and it looks completely different from the one on my 14’ 1794 non-flex fuel. I was able to install everything and use my old sender but my gauge is reading empty so I think I need to replace it regardless. Truck is currently sitting around 195k miles

Yep I had the same problem. You will need the 83320-0C050 for it to read correctly.

    I’ve heard there’s a 52 gal tank that swaps for the 26.
    Anyone know about this?

I believe you’re referring to the 46 gallon transfer flow tank ? It was discontinued a few years ago

I can’t say for certain, but I’m sure it could work. For me, my mechanic had to relocate the E brake and drill holes to place the 3rd cross member. I had the 26 gallon tank prior, so if you check under you truck for the regular cab and there’s at least 3-4 feet total above and below your current tank I would say that it’ll be possible

It was? No mention of it being discontinued on their website. TF shows 5 in stock and a "call...to place your order." I would take the latter as they aren't actively fabricating new ones, but they will if a) existing stock is exhausted and b) a customer calls wanting one.
