What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Finished installing the 7 way. Not too bad, more annoying than difficult for sure. If i wasn't sick, probably would have only taken 3-4 hours.

Haven't installed the controller yet just ran all the wires. Still not sure where to mount that sucker, but that's a problem for next weekend.

 

His rack is……….. top shelf aswell

 

I could see it being the heat maybe, from the bulb too, that makes sense.

 

That seal is easier to install IMHO compared to the other side but sugest OEM. FWIW can read here that seated a non-OEM per spec on the passenger side (after initially installing OEM seal too deep) because needed it running next day. But it leaked. Replaced with OEM, and all good. Aso cleaned the breathers just in case.

 

Yeah @Mr.bee mentioned I should clean the breathers. I still need to do that tomorrow.

 

Sorry didn't see his reply. Yeah don't know if cleaning the breather is what fixed the issue or swapping in the OEM seal. Did both as didn't want to do it again.

 

Nah, he told me in person when we were working on my truck a few weeks ago.

Fuck no. I'll call Wednesday. But I fully expect him to call tomorrow. As of today, it has been three weeks and Jambo has come and gone.

 

Have you done the driver side diff needle bearing for ecgs bushing swap? Learned about it after already swapped the CVs and seal or would have done it then, although it's not displaying any issues.

 

We did it to bmf's truck in amarillo. Pretty straight forward.

 

On the list after everything else ... UBJs, LBJs, rack bushings, valve cover gaskets, and rear brake shoes! About 250k on the originals.

 

Ide bet it's a way different material having to not difuse/alter the light. And maybe thinner, making it more susceptible to the high heat?

 

Mine's installed in the same place (truck came with it), and when I installed one on my old truck that's also where I put it, but if I had to do it again I'd mount it in the bumper by the license plate where you see it mounted with newer trucks. I replaced the pin on my Tacoma a couple times. Either gets bashed backing into a snow bank in a parking lot or dragged on steep approach angles off road. The last time I replaced mine happened to be just before a southern Utah trip. It was cracked and bent again 2 weeks after install...

Looks great though! I remember getting my Tacoma all set up for towing from scratch. I was happy to see the Tundra already had a hitch and brake controller when I bought it. I had airbags in the Tacoma but can't justify that expense right now, so I'm putting in Sumo Springs this weekend. Still excited to tow with the Tundra for the first time. Next month sometime.

 

Thanks! That's funny, I had the same thought after I finished up. Stood back and went "well shit, probably should have mounted that in the bumper. Oh well!".

Our inaugural trip is end of this month, so I need to get the rest of it finished this weekend.

I have a question regarding the rear brakes. I had to take the back drum cover off the replace a broken stud a few weeks ago mentioned on here. When I put everything back together, the rear brakes squeak when coming to a stop. They don’t do it when hitting the brakes to slow down at speed just when pulling up to a stop light or stop sign. It’s more pronounced after the truck has been sitting and seems to get better as the brakes warm up. Any thoughts on what this may be from?

Dumped a bottle of Heet in the gas tank and filled it up.

Looks like that quieted the midget kicking in the gas tank. Methinks this is most likely part of a larger issue.

 

Sorry I must not be tracking your posts here. Is your fuel pump making loud noises in your gas tank?

 

Not noise. It was a bumping/kicking type feeling. Most likely I’m not getting adequate flow and the extra boost from the Heet might be compensating. I’ve had this issue many times (not the bump feeling) and thought it was water in the gas which Heet fixed.

 

Yeah this sounds like you're going to need to drop your tank and check your sock and your filters. Also I would highly question where you're getting gas at if you've got dirt and sediment in the bottom of the tank. I understand that it's going to occur over the years naturally however if you have an undue amount like a large amount at the bottom of your tank clean the tank out get rid of all the gas put a new sock and I would install an inline fuel filter near the sending unit

 

What you're describing is what I have always known is surging or spat pumping. And it's indicative to a damaged and/or clogged fuel system. More so the pump is dying

 

Actually, I now only get gas at Shell and it’s been consistently better. This just happened out of the blue when I got down to 1/4 tank.

 

Yeah that's usually when you find out how much sediment you have in your tank when you get to that quarter and blow mark. My rule of thumb is as soon as the needle hits the top of the quarter mark fill up.

 

Do you only experience it at idle for the most part or while accelerating? For the 90% of the time , it’s been the former and never the latter.

 

What’s weird is before this I’ve consistently got below empty with the light coming on and never a problem. That’s after my dedicated fillings at Shell only.
