The Hilux is hands down the finest truck ever created in the history of the entire world.

This page is very old, but it highlights the differences between the Hilux/older Toyota pickups of the 80s and early 90s and the Tacoma. The Hilux is a literal 1-ton midsized truck. Fully boxed, gusseted frame. Heavy duty fully floating axles. (At least at the time this page was written).

    http://brian894x4.com/Hiluxdifferences.html

"But one of the most important reasons for selecting the older suspension may be
surprising. The frame of the older truck was far more durable than the new Tacoma. The
older truck has a fully boxed, internally gussetted frame that is capable of up to a 1 ton load
capacity with minor modifications, including different springs and full floating rear axles.
The Tacoma, and even the bigger Tundra, is only rated for 1/2 ton on all models and offers
no 1 ton model. One reason is likely the weaker only partly boxed frame. Most of the
Hilux's customers are industry who demand high payload capacity. A great number of
Hilux's sold are of the 1 ton capacity type. In the United States, the last Toyota that was 1
ton capable was a version of the 1998 T-100. The T-100 uses the same suspension and
frame as the current generation Hilux, only wider."

    from the Detroit Free Press.

Ford Motor Co. on Tuesday reported 2023 adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of $10.4 billion, compared with $10.4 billion in 2022 and $10 billion in 2021. For the fourth quarter alone, Ford reported EBIT of $1.1 billion compared with $2.6 billion a year ago.

    They had a bad 4th quarter but overall... 2023 - 2022 - 2021 consistent.
So before interest and and taxes Ford made over 10 billion last year. Can you imagine the taxes if they didn't have business expenses to write that income down. Its all a game as far as the numbers go. The $5b is a bean counters number (legal, until audited and proved otherwise) and its done to make the numbers look good - for investors.

Now the individual owners of these trucks.
Ford continues to qualify their vehicles as business expenses and advertises it.

The Ford F-150 is the best-selling not truck but vehicle in 2023 in Canada and the United States.

Powerboost still driving fine. There was a parts delay (the other big Ford problem.) Somehow they needed a new cat to be able to complete the heat exchanger repair.

Supposed to go in for the final buttoning up Monday. I told them to change the oil and rotate the tires so I don't need to go back for that in 2 months and will hopefully not see them til December.

I hear rumors the heat exchanger has been revised so I hope someone can get me a firm answer on that when I go in.

Got the truck back, driving and sounding like new again after the exhaust section/heat exchanger replacement. As usual when I visit a dealer I couldn't help remember during COVID how supposedly things would never be the same and one thing that would change forever is dealers would probably only have a couple vehicles on the lot to test drive and it would all otherwise be special order going forward. Now my dealer is knee deep in Broncos, first '24 F150s showing up. A few 23s still left. F250s and F350s lined up out front along with a few flavors of Mustang.

The Ford dealer here in Park City is pretty small and looks like a damn exotic car collection. They have a first gen Ford GT in the show room(not sure if its actually for sale), a GT500, like 3-4 Bronco Raptors, multiple F150 Raptors, quite a few lightnings and all sorts of other fancy stuff. It doesn't seem to be moving much.

Ford recalled approx 500,000 SUV’s and light pick ups yesterday. Fuel injectors that may crack and lead and electrical problems that drain batteries.
Going to be busy at the dealerships.

Just Bronco Sport and Maverick right?

The models affected include Ford Bronco Sport SUVs made between 2021 to 2024 and the Ford Maverick pickups made between 2022 to 2023, specifically totaling 456,565 units.

Yes, but the Ford problem is that they can't get the multi-year quality brush fire put out and now are saying they will not make material progress for 12-24 months.

I agree. My Tundra just did an OTA update on the infotainment. Interesting but not that big of a deal. I doubt Toyota can do much more than that OTA.
The Ford SW update could be simple or very complex based on my F150 experience. It was hugely time consuming for the dealer, think hours, for them to update anything if the gateway or APIM modules were involved. Maybe they have better tools that let them update faster and with better reliability than when I was going through it 11 months ago.

I like them. I think Ford has done an A+ job migrating the looks of the F150 over the generations. I think the new Super Duty looks great too.

A ranger has a fully boxed frame. So does a Colorado.

Just cause Toyota is a bunch of slack jaws and put c-channel frames on their US specific trucks up until TNGA-F doesnt mean the Hilux is special. It just means its not a Tacoma.

It's not just the frame, although that's part of it, sure. The Hilux is also a legit 1-ton rated midsize pickup with fully floating axles.

And I don't think the new fuel injector recall has a permanent fix attached to it yet which pisses a lot of people off. There is a drain tube installed to re route potentially leaking fuel to a less harmful location and some sort of sensor installed to alert the driver to a problem sooner. Also a warranty extension on the part. There is no redesigned part to fix the problem right now.

Don't go talking facts....I bet there will be an increase on google searches for fully floating axles now...

Is this recall for an engine that's available for the F150 platform?

That would be incredibly frustrating. Especially when they have to go in twice, temporary fix and then again for the permanent fix. Hopefully those affected owners remember to show up with an almost empty fuel tank as that has to be dropped each time.

I think it's a recall on a recall and a permanent fix later.
    Broncos and Escapes.
The expense on this has to be frustrating if you work at Ford.

No I think the big Bronco may share the 2.7 but the baby Bronco and Escape don't share an F150 motor. Little 4 bangers

Long time lurker, first time poster!!!

I am a powerboost owner who just spent 4 ish months waiting for a repair on the starting system. Episodic rounds of the orange wrench popping up on the dash with no electric motor function. The truck never left me stranded but it constantly leaves me wondering when it will. Ford service is a whole nother story on itself.
It’s sad in that I really enjoy the truck but I have been test driving Gen 2.5’s this week…

Allow me to pre-emptively welcome you to the dinosaur club. These 2.5 gen trucks will last forever. The only trick is, you have to keep filling the tank with dealer repellent.

In 2 yrs I had some berserk software caused by the reflash for the dropping tailgate recall that put me in a loaner for 15 days and a heat exchanger replacement that had me in and out in a day. That malfunction caused no drivability issues besides a check engine light. I am waiting to see what else happens and what the new Ram Charger looks like when it hits the streets. I got the 8/100 ESP with rental reimbursement to give myself time to work with.

Incredibly fun truck and I love the 7.2 kw system so Im hoping my hand doesn't get forced super early.

I would never buy a 1st year model of anything from Stellantis.

Even Toyota had a few hiccups.

Stellantis is no where near Toyota in long term quality or reliability

Yeah it is out in 2025 so I have 5-6 years to look at it. Who knows what ends up happening. I was looking to hold the Powerboost 10 years but add something sporty to the driveway around the 5 year mark. If the Ram Charger looks more attractive in a few years I may jump to that and be happy just with that and give up my dream of putting a muscle car back in the driveway. I could also get into another muscle car a few years down the line then when it's time for the powerboost to go replace it with a used half ton or SUV without a whole bunch of tech.

I went backward because of tech. 2022 Ford Edge ST loaded with tech to a 2018 Tundra, thinking it will outlast the Ford because of very little intrusive tech to go bad. If I lose the pre collision and radar cruise control, I can still drive it. Not so if the steering actuator for the lane centering and parking assist goes on the Ford. I went down the low tech road after my 2015 Avalon hybrid rear window shade stopped working. Only $3,500 to replace, under warranty.

Are you happy with your 18'? I looked at a beat down Canadian 20' SR5/ OR ( 50K miles ) and a Canadian 18' Sr5 last night (20K miles & clean) , love the seat heaters in both but missed things like power rear window sliders and updated head unit in the 18. They actually has suprisingly different road feel. ( Sorry to stray off topic... )
