Something is not right after service

2024 Tundra TRD Pro. I just had my truck serviced at the dealership a week ago. 10,000 mile service, transmission software recall and alignment. Tires were wearing on the outside. I’m at 9500 miles. Since the service, something sounds like it’s binding. I hear it when going very slow and in a turn. Such as pulling into or out of a space. I’m taking the truck back to the dealership but I’m curious if anyone has heard the same or if anyone has any ideas on what it could be? The truck has been great so far but hearing this is a bit off putting.

That’s exactly what it sounds like but it’s not…..or at least the switch is in 2H.

 

I’ve heard others complain that their trucks weren’t the same after the trans update…

 

Hopefully it is ither nothin or the update answers some questions.

With it being in slow turns or parking, it does sound like a 4wd engagement thing. But with the year and mileage, I do not know if enough have experienced something like it. Hopefully this stays bumped and someone can answer. Regardless, let us know what you hear!

 

I have the same concerns. Truck went in for a warranty claim on the radio knob (which has it's own crazy story) and had the trans recall done at the same time. Some time afterwards, I was in a drive through right next to the building with my driver side window down and my truck is sounding like a beater with a lot of very metalic rattling sounds coming from what sounds like under my truck. Then as I am driving around on an Air Force base I work on, where the posted speed limit is anywhere from 15 to 35 mph, I can hear that "binding" sound you referenced. I swear I can almost feel it through the steering wheel as well.

Definitely not in 4 wheel drive.

 

Interesting, since I did the trans update my mpg has dropped significantly

 

I had a very similar thing with my 2023 and it turned out to be a bolt on the skid plate that had not been completely tightened following service.

 

My only other thought is maybe the transmission making a “clunking” sound after the transmission recall…..

 

That has come to mind as well. It very well could be the transmission. I need to see if I can get someone to listen and narrow down where it’s coming from. Dealership can’t get me in for a couple weeks so I am going to listen and see what I can figure out in the mean time. I can’t imagine it would be anything to do with the alignment adjustments they made.

 

You will need to put some miles on it after the latest TCM update for the "movement while in neutral"...the "learning" of the TCM was erased so it will need to see multiple cycles before it resolves...

How many miles have you put on it since the update? Is the vehicle getting up to temperature for extended periods of time?

 

The truck does get warmed up by driving. I don’t know about extended periods but I’ve put 200 miles on it since. Normal daily driving. It very well could be the TCM and honestly I hope that’s all it is.

 

It is more than likely just the TCM relearning...

What is your driving style? Have you gotten on it - like from a stop up to 60-70 at full throttle?

 

Depends if my wife is with me but yes I get all over it at times, not all the time though. Since the TCM flash probably once or twice.

 

I averaged slightly over 20 mpg on the 2 hour drive to the dealership to get the trans recall done. I averaged 17 on the return trip. Flat terrain with no wind in either direction. I hope it "learns" to be less thirsty.

 

What happens during this re-learning? I see that with other software updates too. I ask that because when I drove the truck brand-new I don't remember any of that, and I would think its learning then too.

I have the mailing from Toyota at my house for that recall. Got it this week.

 

I’ve noticed a drop of around 1-2mpg since the update as well. Was getting 18-19 and now I get 17. Is there a way to make it learn to get better mpg driving it harder lol?
